Biography and Experience
Gareth Wood has been intimately involved in facilitating 'people working with people' and leadership issues for most of his life. He has 20 years of experience in customer service, training, administration and management, as well as 12 years as an independant consultant and trainer.
Gareth is a highly skilled mountaineer and outdoor adventure instructor who has lead numerous outdoor programs in both Canada and the United Kingdom. His background includes service as a Chief Instructor as well as a Director of an extensive Outdoor Leadership Training program in Canada. There he was responsible for evaluating participants for careers in adventure tourism and adventure guiding around the world.

Walking to the End of the Earth...
Gareth's organizational, administrative and training abilities, together with his skills as an experienced outdoorsman, were put to the test in 1985/1986 when he served as Logistics Coordinator and Base Commander for the Antarctic expedition "In the Footsteps of Scott". Gareth and team members, Robert Swan and Roger Mear, trekked 900 miles on foot, over some of the most forbidding terrain on Earth, to reach the South Pole. They became the first in history to accomplish such a journey without support - no dog teams, food caches, air support, or radio communications. Surviving on a strict high-fat ration including salami, butter, biscuits and hot chocolate, the team successfully reached the pole in 70 days - navigating with a simple compass and sextant. Recognized as one of the great human feats of the 20th century, the team was personally presented with the Polar Medal by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 1988.

Since 1992, Gareth has developed a successful business as a professional trainer, organizational development consultant and keynote speaker. He combines his business and professional expertise with his expedition and Antarctic experiences. Gareth has developed a unique knowledge and understanding of the elements required to create and lead productive, effective teams.
Gareth is a certified Situational Leadership Program® trainer and is recognized for his skills in the areas of leading change, vision development, collaborative strategic planning, people development and team building.
Gareth currently resides on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, with his wife Linda and young son Evan. Through his company, Gareth Wood Associates, Gareth trains, touches and inspires audiences around the world.
